2026 DCLPB Keynote Speaker

Andy Pettitte

Andrew Eugene Pettitte (born June 15, 1972, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana) is a former Major League Baseball left-handed pitcher who spent the majority of his 18-year career with the New York Yankees, with a three-season stint with his hometown Houston Astros. Widely regarded as one of the most accomplished postseason pitchers in baseball history, Pettitte combined exceptional durability, a devastating cutter, and remarkable composure in high-pressure situations to cement his legacy as a cornerstone of the Yankees dynasty during the late 1990s and 2000s.

Pettitte gave his life to Christ at 11 years old, and his faith has remained the foundation of his life ever since. He met his wife Laura at a Baptist church near Houston, where her father was the pastor. The two married young and have raised four children together, with their shared faith guiding them through the demands of professional baseball.

Known for his competitive fire, precise command, and signature pickoff move, Pettitte was the consummate “big game” pitcher. But beyond his athletic achievements, he was never afraid to live out his faith in the clubhouse, often leading Bible studies for teammates—even when it wasn’t popular. “You have to get to the point where you don’t care what anyone thinks of you,” Pettitte has shared. “It’s been wonderful during the course of my career to see people, see other teammates accept Jesus.”

“What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his soul?” Pettitte often references this verse from Mark 8:36 when speaking about what truly matters. “It’s not about all the trophies and all the money and all the fame. It’s more about people’s souls.”

Life After Baseball

Faith & Speaking Ministry Since retiring from baseball in 2013, Pettitte has devoted significant time to sharing his testimony and encouraging others in their faith. He has spoken at churches, universities, and faith-based events across the country, including Liberty University and Houston Christian University. In 2025, he and his wife Laura appeared on Ainsley Earhardt’s Bible Study on Fox Nation, discussing faith, character, and leading with conviction as Christians.

Charitable Work Pettitte is actively involved with the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which supports homeless veterans and the families of fallen military members and first responders. “I teamed up with Tunnel to Towers after seeing their life-changing work with military and first responder families,” Pettitte has said. “If you’re an American, I really just felt something in my heart that this is something I want to find out more about and get into.”

Continued Yankees Involvement In 2019, Pettitte served in an advisory role for Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman, traveling with the team’s minor league system to mentor young pitchers coming up through the organization.

Andy Pettitte’s legacy extends far beyond his remarkable baseball statistics. His steadfast faith, commitment to family, and dedication to serving others make him an inspiring voice for Christian leadership.
